We are proud to celebrate Sofía Santiago, a dedicated youth volunteer and the newest recipient of the American Citizenship Award, presented by the Global Volunteer Recognition Program. This prestigious honor is awarded to young leaders who demonstrate outstanding civic responsibility, compassion, and commitment to their communities.
Sofía is a freshman at North Broward Preparatory School in Coconut Creek, Florida, and her volunteer work already reflects the qualities of a compassionate and impactful leader. She serves as an ambassador for Project Beauty, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting teen mental health and promoting self-confidence. Through this role, Sofía helped raise over $10,000 during a local fundraising campaign and was recognized for her leadership and efforts as the top fundraiser.
In addition to her mental health advocacy, Sofía is passionate about childhood literacy. She volunteers with the Hands On South Florida Youth Reading Program, where she has supported early reading initiatives and distributed books to celebrate Superhero Reading Day for underserved children. Her dedication to literacy also extends to her work with Learning Ally, where she helped review and provide quality assurance for over 20 audiobooks designed to support students with dyslexia and other reading challenges.
Sofía’s volunteerism doesn’t stop there. As a member of her school’s Key Club, she actively participates in projects such as friendship bracelet making, art for charity, boardwalk cleanups, and fundraising for animal rescue efforts. Her well-rounded involvement in both school and community life demonstrates her unwavering commitment to service.
Sofía Santiago is more than a student—she is a role model and changemaker. We are honored to recognize her achievements and look forward to seeing the continued impact of her work.
Congratulations, Sofía, on earning the American Citizenship Award!
