Inspiring Leadership Through Service
Richard Chen, a student at Lynbrook High School and the founder of Dreamkick World Mission, has shown how one person’s dedication can create global change. In 2025, Richard devoted more than 100 hours to supporting underprivileged youth through the discipline and values of Taekwondo.
He organized a community book fair that raised $2,648, enough to provide 100 new Taekwondo uniforms for students in need. Taking his commitment even further, Richard traveled over 2,500 miles to Guatemala to personally deliver the uniforms and lead Taekwondo workshops.
Building Connections Beyond Language
More than 300 students participated in the events led by Richard and his team. They focused on lessons in discipline, respect, and perseverance, key principles of Taekwondo that reach far beyond the mat.
Although there were initial language barriers, Richard quickly learned that movement, energy, and laughter are universal languages. Through shared experiences, he and the students built trust and genuine relationships, showing that compassion and leadership know no borders.
Lessons in Leadership and Service
Richard’s experience in Guatemala transformed his understanding of leadership. He realized that true leadership is not about giving orders but about showing up, serving others, and earning trust. The trip helped him strengthen his teamwork skills and deepened his commitment to empowering youth worldwide through martial arts and volunteerism.
His work with Dreamkick World Mission continues to inspire others to use their passions to make a difference.
