Individual annual membership dues are currently $100 per recognition year. This equals approximately $8.33 per month when divided across the year, although membership is organized and sold as an annual calendar-year program rather than a monthly subscription.

Global Volunteer Awards™

The Global Volunteer Awards™ recognize qualifying members who complete and document eligible volunteer service during a calendar year.

Recognition levels include:

The applicable level is based on the member’s age group and approved volunteer hours. The membership year, service year, and requested recognition year must match.

A qualifying member receives a personalized digital award certificate and verification letter after approval. Physical Global Volunteer Award recognition packages are optional purchases.

Sustained Commitment Member Milestone Certificate

The Sustained Commitment Member Milestone Certificate recognizes members who maintain a meaningful connection with the program across multiple membership years.

Milestones are available after:

3 total membership years
5 total membership years
10 total membership years

Membership years do not have to be consecutive. A member may take time away and continue building toward the next milestone when they return.

The personalized digital milestone certificate is automatically included when a qualifying milestone is reached. An optional printed certificate is currently available for $5 plus shipping.

Excellence in Volunteer Leadership Award

The Excellence in Volunteer Leadership Award recognizes active members who demonstrate meaningful leadership, initiative, responsibility, encouragement, mentoring, coordination, or problem-solving through volunteer service.

A formal leadership title is not required, and there is no fixed minimum number of volunteer hours. Applicants must document the leadership demonstrated and the resulting service or community impact.

Affordable digital and printed certificate options are available separately.

Volunteer Project Impact Award

The Volunteer Project Impact Award recognizes active members who make a meaningful contribution to a volunteer project that creates a documented community benefit or positive result.

There is no minimum number of volunteer hours or minimum project size. Independent, organization-based, team, remote, virtual, local, national, and international projects may qualify.

Qualifying projects submitted in advance for calendar and social media awareness may also receive the complimentary Community Engagement Distinction when every applicable requirement is met.

Why Are Most Member-Exclusive Awards Sold Separately?

Members have different service goals.

One member may want annual recognition based on verified volunteer hours. Another may want to document volunteer leadership, celebrate a meaningful project, or receive a printed membership milestone certificate.

Offering most optional awards separately allows each member to choose the recognition path that fits their service journey. This helps the Global Volunteer Recognition Program keep the overall annual membership fee as affordable as possible instead of increasing dues to include awards every member may not want or need.

Membership provides access to these exclusive opportunities. Purchasing an optional award does not replace its service, membership, documentation, eligibility, or review requirements.

The digital Sustained Commitment Member Milestone Certificate is the exception. It is automatically included when a member reaches a qualifying 3-year, 5-year, or 10-year membership milestone.

Are Members Paying to Receive an Earned Award?

No. Annual membership dues provide participation in the Global Volunteer Recognition Program and support the materials, administration, resources, and services included with membership.

Membership does not allow someone to purchase an earned volunteer award without completing the applicable requirements.

Recognition through an hours-based program such as the Global Volunteer Awards requires qualifying documented service. Volunteer hours and supporting information are reviewed according to the requirements of the applicable recognition year.

Leadership and project-based awards also require documented achievements and eligibility review. Purchasing a certificate option does not guarantee approval.

Which Membership Year Should I Purchase?

Choose the membership that matches the calendar year in which the applicable volunteer service or member achievement occurred.

For example, volunteer service completed between January 1 and December 31 of a particular year requires a membership for that same year when applying for a member-exclusive award tied to the recognition year.

If you are joining to begin or continue your current volunteer recognition journey, choose the current calendar-year membership.

Joining later in the year does not limit membership to service completed after the purchase date. Members may document eligible service completed earlier in the same recognition year, subject to the applicable deadlines, documentation requirements, and program policies.

Past-year memberships should only be purchased when:

The volunteer has eligible service or achievements from that calendar year
The matching membership is still available
The applicable documentation can be provided
Current submission and award requirements can be met

Can Membership Years Be Nonconsecutive?

Yes. Each verified annual membership counts toward a member’s total participation history, even when the years are not consecutive.

For example, a person who joins for two years, takes time away, and later returns may continue building toward a Sustained Commitment milestone. The member does not have to restart their total membership count.

However, awards based on service or achievements completed during a specific recognition year still require the matching annual membership.

Does one individual membership cover an entire family?

An individual membership is intended for one named member unless a particular membership product specifically states otherwise. Families with multiple participating volunteers should review the available membership options for each person.

Are Leadership Academy courses included?

Leadership Academy courses are separate self-paced educational products unless a specific membership listing states otherwise. Members may receive selected discounts or special offers when available.

Is the President’s Volunteer Service Award guaranteed?

No. President’s Volunteer Service Award availability depends on the national program, current certification status, official requirements, deadlines, and program availability. The Global Volunteer Recognition Program continues to provide its own independent volunteer recognition opportunities regardless of the status of outside award programs.

Do I have to wait for the annual ceremony to receive recognition?

No. Qualifying submissions may be reviewed and issued throughout the year according to the requirements and processing schedule of the selected award. Ceremony participation, presentation, and event recognition are separate from award eligibility and issuance.
