Jongyoon Yang Inspires Others Through Service and Taekwondo

Jongyoon Yang

Empowering Others Through Education and Action

Jongyoon Yang, a student at Cupertino High School, demonstrated a strong commitment to service in 2025, contributing more than 75 volunteer hours to support education, inclusion, and cultural awareness. His dedication to helping others learn and grow reflects both leadership and empathy in action.

One of Jongyoon’s most impactful roles was volunteering at Saturday Korean School, where he helped students explore Korean culture, history, and Taekwondo. During the first few hours of each session, he assisted teachers by setting up class materials, grading homework, and helping students who needed extra guidance. His active participation created a positive learning environment where students could connect with Korean heritage through interactive lessons and creative presentations.

Teaching Taekwondo with Discipline and Heart

After classroom instruction, Jongyoon transitioned to an elective Taekwondo course for young students. As an instructor, he guided them through the fundamentals of Taekwondo, focusing on the core values of discipline, respect, and perseverance.

He demonstrated techniques, led warm-ups, and encouraged each student to strengthen both body and mind. His patience and enthusiasm inspired confidence in his students and made learning martial arts a fun and meaningful experience.

Outside of the Saturday program, Jongyoon also volunteered at his Taekwondo academy, teaching forms, drills, and exercises to beginner students. Through this additional service, he continued to share his love for the sport while refining his own leadership and teaching skills.

Supporting Inclusion and Building Compassion

In addition to his teaching roles, Jongyoon volunteered with his school’s club supporting students with disabilities. There, he engaged with students through fun activities and supportive conversations, helping to build a welcoming and inclusive school community.

These experiences allowed him to understand that leadership is not only about instruction but also about patience, empathy, and understanding. Each opportunity to serve helped him grow as a leader who uplifts others with kindness and respect.

Lessons in Leadership and Growth

Through all his volunteer experiences, Jongyoon learned that true leadership begins with compassion and service. By combining education, martial arts, and mentorship, he made a lasting impact on the students he taught and the community he served.

His story highlights how young leaders can inspire others by sharing their knowledge, embracing diversity, and approaching every challenge with an open heart.
