Start Here: How to Join the Global Volunteer Recognition Program
Welcome to the Global Volunteer Recognition Program™, a community created to celebrate volunteers, support leadership growth, and help people document and honor meaningful service.
Whether you volunteer locally, remotely, nationally, or globally, your time and impact matter.
What Is the Global Volunteer Recognition Program?
The Global Volunteer Recognition Program, or GVRP, is a mission-driven volunteer recognition community. It helps individuals celebrate service through annual membership, volunteer-hour documentation, award pathways, achievement badges, leadership education, volunteer projects, student recognition, military community recognition, storytelling, and recognition events.
GVRP was created for volunteers who want their contributions to be seen, appreciated, and connected to meaningful opportunities for growth. The program welcomes different causes, schedules, abilities, locations, and levels of experience.

President’s Volunteer Service Award Status
AmeriCorps paused the President’s Volunteer Service Award program on May 27, 2025. The pause affected all certifying organizations. As of July 2026, AmeriCorps had not announced whether or when the program would resume.
GVRP cannot issue new PVSA awards while the national program is paused. GVRP continues to monitor official information and provides its own independent recognition pathways, including the Global Volunteer Awards™.

Frequently Asked Questions About Joining GVRP
Use these quick answers to choose the right membership year, understand what dues include, and decide which GVRP option fits your goals.
What is the Global Volunteer Recognition Program?
The Global Volunteer Recognition Program is a mission-driven volunteer recognition community that helps people document and celebrate service through annual membership, awards, achievement badges, leadership education, volunteer projects, student recognition, stories, and events.
What is the best way to get started with GVRP?
Annual membership is the most complete starting point if you want a full calendar recognition year, membership materials, service-documentation support, program updates, and eligibility to submit qualifying service for Global Volunteer Awards and access member-exclusive milestone, leadership, and project-impact recognition. You may also begin without membership through a course, badge, public student or military award, tracking app, or volunteer opportunity.
How much does individual GVRP membership cost?
Individual annual membership dues are currently $100 per calendar recognition year. Review the current membership listing for pricing, benefits, renewal choices, deadlines, and requirements.
Is GVRP membership required for every product or program?
No. Membership is not required for every GVRP offering. Leadership Academy courses, the volunteer tracking app, achievement badges, the Global Student Citizenship & Service Award, the Military Community Volunteer Impact Award, and selected other programs may be available separately. The Global Volunteer Awards™, Sustained Commitment Member Milestone Certificate, Excellence in Volunteer Leadership Award, and Volunteer Project Impact Award are member-exclusive recognition pathways.
Which awards are exclusive to active GVRP members?
The Global Volunteer Awards™, Sustained Commitment Member Milestone Certificate, Excellence in Volunteer Leadership Award, and Volunteer Project Impact Award require active GVRP membership under their published eligibility rules. Membership opens access to these pathways but does not automatically guarantee approval.
Is the Sustained Commitment Member Milestone Certificate included with membership?
A personalized digital milestone certificate is included after a member reaches 3, 5, or 10 total GVRP membership years and eligibility is confirmed. Membership years do not have to be consecutive. An optional printed certificate is available for $5 plus shipping.
What is the Military Community Volunteer Impact Award?
The Military Community Volunteer Impact Award is an earned GVRP recognition for qualifying members of the military community who complete at least 50 qualifying volunteer hours during one calendar year. It is independently administered by GVRP and is not a federal, Department of Defense, military branch, or President’s Volunteer Service Award.
Who is eligible for the Military Community Volunteer Impact Award?
Eligible applicants may include active-duty service members, National Guard members, Reserve members, veterans, military spouses, and qualifying military dependents or family members. Applicants must also meet the volunteer-hour, documentation, affiliation-verification, and review requirements.
What are the volunteer-hour requirements for the military community award?
Applicants must complete at least 50 qualifying volunteer hours between January 1 and December 31 of one calendar year. Hours from different calendar years cannot be combined. Hours do not need to be pre-verified because GVRP reviews the volunteer-service documentation during the application process. Applicants should not upload a military identification card.
Does paying membership dues guarantee a volunteer award?
No. Membership includes specified services and membership materials, but it does not purchase or guarantee an earned award. Hours-based recognition requires qualifying documented service, review, and compliance with the applicable rules. Leadership and project-impact awards also require separate eligibility review. The complimentary digital milestone certificate is issued only after a member reaches an eligible membership-year milestone and eligibility is confirmed.
Which annual membership year should I choose?
Choose the membership matching the calendar year when the service was completed. For example, eligible service completed from January 1 through December 31, 2026 belongs with a 2026 membership.
Can I join after the recognition year has started?
Yes. You may join later in the year and document eligible service completed earlier in that same calendar recognition year, subject to current deadlines, documentation requirements, and program rules.
Can remote and international volunteer service be recognized?
GVRP welcomes local, remote, national, and global service. Eligibility depends on the activity, documentation, applicable recognition program, and current rules. Keep clear records and supporting information for every service activity.
Are Leadership Academy courses included with membership?
Leadership Academy courses are separate, self-paced educational products unless a specific membership offer states otherwise. Annual membership is not required to enroll in most courses.
Is the President’s Volunteer Service Award currently available?
No new PVSA awards can be issued through GVRP while the national program is paused. AmeriCorps paused the program on May 27, 2025, and no resumption date had been announced as of July 2026. GVRP continues to offer independent recognition options.
Is GVRP a nonprofit organization?
No. GVRP is a mission-driven for-profit LLC. Membership dues and product revenue support program administration, recognition resources, technology, customer service, materials, fulfillment, and continued program development.
Who can join the Global Volunteer Recognition Program?
GVRP welcomes students, adults, families, pageant titleholders, remote volunteers, community leaders, retirees, nonprofit supporters, corporate volunteers, advocates, and others who contribute time and talent to positive causes. Product-specific eligibility rules may apply.
