Kanghee Kim, a student at Monta Vista High School, embodies adaptability, leadership, and compassion. Earlier this year, he and his family moved from Korea to the United States, marking his first experience attending school in a new country. Despite the challenges of adjusting to a different culture and language, Kanghee has approached every opportunity with enthusiasm and determination.
Rather than focusing solely on his own transition, he chose to give back to his new community through meaningful service. His story highlights how volunteering can build confidence, create connections, and help individuals grow into global citizens.
Sharing Culture Through Education
Every Saturday, Kanghee volunteers as an assistant teacher at the Silicon Valley Korean School, where he helps 4th-grade students learn about the Korean language and culture. His commitment to education and mentorship makes him a valued part of the classroom community.
By sharing his cultural heritage, Kanghee helps students develop an appreciation for diversity while strengthening his own communication and teaching skills. His role reflects his belief that cultural understanding is essential to building strong, inclusive communities.
Inspiring Confidence Through Taekwondo
In addition to his work in education, Kanghee volunteers as an assistant instructor at DreamKick Taekwondo, where he supports beginner students below the black belt level. Drawing on his years of experience training in Korea, he teaches the principles of discipline, respect, and perseverance, helping younger students build confidence both on and off the mat.
Through Taekwondo, Kanghee connects movement with mentorship, showing that leadership is not just about skill—it’s about guidance, patience, and example.
