Dr Sara Dukart: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Mental Health Advocate

Dr Sara Dukart

Dr Sara Dukart is a dedicated psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, community leader and strong advocate for mental health and suicide prevention. Born in Portland, Maine, she spent her early years in foster care before being adopted at age three. Her childhood included a year in New Zealand, followed by her upbringing in Minnesota. She later moved to North Dakota for college, where she met her husband. They have been married for thirteen years and have two children, Carter and Caia Rose. As a family they enjoy traveling, camping and exploring new places together.

Dr Dukart earned two undergraduate degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Community Health and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She continued her service driven path by earning her doctorate as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. She now provides compassionate and skilled care in both a trauma level one emergency department and an outpatient clinic, supporting individuals with complex mental health needs.

Her commitment to volunteerism is a defining part of her life. She has served with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for more than ten years, sits on the North Dakota board of directors and co chairs the chapter’s advocacy committee. Through her platform, Hope through Help, and her podcast, Starting the Convo, she focuses on reducing stigma and expanding community education on mental health and suicide prevention.

Dr Dukart also represented her state with pride as International Mrs North Dakota 2024 and earned third runner up for International Mrs USA. She continues to use her voice, her clinical expertise and her lived experiences to inspire meaningful conversations that help make mental health support more accessible for all.
