Meet Laurel Barrett: Founder of the Global Volunteer Recognition Program
Share
In 2023, lifelong volunteer and community advocate Laurel Barrett launched the Global Volunteer Recognition Program, a mission-driven initiative designed to honor the contributions of volunteers around the world. As someone who has personally logged over 500 hours of volunteer service annually, Laurel saw a growing need for recognition, connection, and celebration within the volunteer space.
The Global Volunteer Recognition Program was created to provide a platform where volunteers of all ages and backgrounds can be supported, spotlighted, and encouraged to continue making an impact. Too often, the efforts of volunteers go unnoticed, yet their service creates lasting change in communities both locally and globally. This program aims to change that.
Through a combination of volunteer spotlights, monthly service projects, and recognition opportunities such as the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA), the program ensures that volunteers feel valued and seen. Members also gain access to a growing network of service-minded individuals who share a common goal of making the world a better place.
Why Laurel Barrett Started the Program
Laurel Barrett has been active in the healthcare field for nearly two decades, teaches pharmacy technology at the college level, and has held multiple pageant titles, including International Ms. Colorado and Ms. Elemental USA. Through these platforms, she has remained committed to uplifting others, especially volunteers who give so much without expecting anything in return.
She founded the Global Volunteer Recognition Program to formalize that support — to give volunteers something tangible and meaningful that acknowledges their time, effort, and heart.
The program is rooted in a simple mission:
To celebrate the contributions of all volunteers to create a better world.
