Honoring Savanna Seeling – Recipient of the American Citizenship Award

The Global Volunteer Recognition Program is proud to honor Savanna Seeling with the prestigious American Citizenship Award. This national award recognizes young leaders who demonstrate exceptional civic engagement, global citizenship, and a passion for serving others.

Savanna is an incoming honor student at Michigan State University, majoring in Political Science-Prelaw, and already has a remarkable history of volunteer service that spans her school, state, country, and the world. A dual citizen of the United States and Germany, Savanna is deeply committed to academic excellence and community impact.

During her high school years, she earned multiple awards for her achievements in both academics and service, including the Michigan Governor Youth Spirit of Hope Service Award, National Community Service Ambassador Award, and the Michigan Community Impact Award.

Through the National Honor Society, Savanna participated in food and blood drives and led a donation campaign for the Fretail Store in Lansing, providing free goods to families in need. She also worked with Love For Our Elders, writing letters to seniors worldwide, and collaborated with her Key Club to promote literacy through book drives supporting Reading People and the Boys and Girls Club.

Her inspiration to volunteer is rooted in her personal experiences. After the passing of a beloved elderly neighbor, she recognized the importance of intergenerational connections and began dedicating her time to reducing senior loneliness. Additionally, her experience transferring schools made her aware of the stark differences in educational resources, which now fuels her work to close learning gaps and promote literacy among underserved youth.

In summer 2024, Savanna volunteered at the Republican National Convention, where her interest in government deepened. This experience further solidified her goal to serve both locally and globally through civic engagement and law.

With over 250 hours of community service completed in high school, Savanna plans to continue volunteering throughout her college career at MSU and beyond. Her mission is clear—help build stronger communities through education, empathy, and service.
