Active-duty service members, veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, military spouses, and military families contribute countless hours to schools, nonprofits, food banks, veteran organizations, community projects, disaster response efforts, and causes that strengthen communities across the country.
The Global Volunteer Recognition Program™ (GVRP) is proud to introduce the Military Community Volunteer Impact Award, a new civilian volunteer recognition created to honor eligible members of the U.S. military community who continue making a difference through volunteer service.
Recipients must complete at least 50 qualifying volunteer hours during a single calendar year, January 1 through December 31.
GVRP membership is not required.
Applicants also do not need to have their volunteer hours pre-verified before applying. GVRP completes the volunteer-hour verification process as part of the award review.

An Award Inspired by Service, Patriotism and America's 250th Anniversary
The idea for the Military Community Volunteer Impact Award was inspired in part by a meaningful series of events during America's 250th anniversary celebration.
GVRP Founder and Executive Director Laurel Barrett was honored with the Charles W Herbster Most Patriotic Award at The Global Beauty Awards. The recognition created an opportunity to reflect on what patriotism means and the many ways people demonstrate their commitment to their country and communities through service.
The Global Volunteer Recognition Program™ also signed the U.S. Small Business Administration's Freedom 250 Small Business Pledge, joining small businesses participating in the celebration of America's 250th anniversary.
Those experiences connected naturally with the mission GVRP has carried since its beginning:

How can GVRP recognize members of the military community who continue serving others through volunteerism?
Military service itself deserves tremendous respect, but the commitment to service often does not stop there.
A service member may spend weekends helping at a food bank.
A veteran may mentor young people or support fellow veterans transitioning into civilian life.
A military spouse may contribute hundreds of hours to schools, nonprofits, military families, or community organizations.
Military family members may become dedicated volunteers in each community they call home.
The Military Community Volunteer Impact Award grew in part from those reflections on patriotism, America's 250th anniversary, and the extraordinary culture of service found throughout the military community.
Although these experiences helped inspire the award, the Military Community Volunteer Impact Award is independently created and administered by the Global Volunteer Recognition Program™. It is not sponsored, issued, or endorsed by The Global Beauty Awards, America250, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Department of Defense, or any branch of the United States Armed Forces.
What Is the Military Community Volunteer Impact Award?
The Military Community Volunteer Impact Award is an earned civilian volunteer recognition presented by the Global Volunteer Recognition Program™.
It recognizes eligible members of the military community who complete at least 50 qualifying volunteer hours during one calendar year.
The award celebrates voluntary community service performed beyond required military duties, normal paid employment, and other required responsibilities.
It is designed to recognize a continued commitment to serving others.
Who Can Earn the Award?
The Military Community Volunteer Impact Award is open to qualifying:

How Many Volunteer Hours Are Required?
Recipients must complete at least:
50 Qualifying Volunteer Hours During One Calendar Year
Each award year begins on:
January 1
and ends on:
December 31
For example, someone applying for the 2026 Military Community Volunteer Impact Award must complete at least 50 qualifying volunteer hours between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026.
Volunteer hours from different calendar years cannot be combined.
For example, 30 hours completed in 2026 plus 20 hours completed in 2027 would not meet the 50-hour requirement for either year.
This calendar-year structure keeps the Military Community Volunteer Impact Award aligned with GVRP's other annual recognition programs.
Can Hours From Multiple Organizations Be Combined?
Yes.
Volunteer hours may be completed with one organization or across multiple qualifying organizations.
For example, someone could complete:

20 hours with a food bank

15 hours with a veterans organization

10 hours volunteering at a school

5 hours participating in community cleanup projects
Total: 50 qualifying volunteer hours
All service must occur between January 1 and December 31 of the same award year and must be reasonably verifiable by GVRP.

Do My Volunteer Hours Need to Be Verified Before I Apply?
No.
Applicants do not need to have their volunteer hours formally or independently verified before applying.
This is an important part of the Military Community Volunteer Impact Award process.
Applicants simply provide the volunteer information and supporting documentation they have available.

Applicants should not submit a photograph or copy of a CAC, Uniformed Services ID Card, dependent military identification card, or other military identification card.

Is GVRP Membership Required?
No.
GVRP membership is not required to apply for or earn the Military Community Volunteer Impact Award.
This award was intentionally created as a separate recognition opportunity for members of the military community.
Individuals who would like additional year-round volunteer recognition opportunities are welcome to explore GVRP Annual Membership, but membership is entirely optional for this award.

Can Someone Earn the Award More Than Once?
Yes.
The Military Community Volunteer Impact Award may be earned in multiple calendar years.
Recipients must independently satisfy the requirements for each award year.
For example, someone who completes at least 50 qualifying volunteer hours in both 2026 and 2027 may earn:

Is the Award Purchased or Earned?
The Military Community Volunteer Impact Award is earned.
Purchasing an award package does not automatically qualify someone for recognition.
Before an award is issued, GVRP must be able to verify:
1. Qualifying military-community affiliation
and
2. At least 50 qualifying volunteer hours completed during the applicable January 1 through December 31 award year
Applicants do not need to complete the verification process themselves before applying.
GVRP completes the verification review.
The cost of the recognition package helps support application review, verification, administrative processing, personalization, certificate preparation, printing when applicable, and recognition materials.
